The Sleep Condition Indicator (SCI) is an 8-item screening tool developed by Espie et al. (2014) to assess insomnia disorder based on DSM-5 criteria. Unlike older measures, it directly maps onto current diagnostic criteria.
The SCI assesses sleep quality, sleep satisfaction, severity of sleep problems, daytime functioning, and duration of symptoms. Higher scores indicate better sleep; lower scores suggest possible insomnia disorder.
