About Mental Wellbeing

Mental wellbeing is not simply the absence of mental illness. It encompasses feeling good (happiness, contentment, enjoyment) and functioning well (having positive relationships, purpose, and resilience). Wellbeing fluctuates over time and is influenced by many factors in our lives.

About the SWEMWBS

The Short Warwick-Edinburgh Mental Wellbeing Scale (SWEMWBS) is a 7-item scale derived from the original 14-item WEMWBS. It was developed by the Universities of Warwick and Edinburgh to enable monitoring of mental wellbeing in the general population.

Unlike many mental health measures that focus on symptoms of illness, the SWEMWBS focuses on positive aspects of mental health including:
