Please Note
Telehealth sessions are available in specific circumstances only, not for all presentations. If you're unsure whether telehealth is suitable for your situation, please get in touch and we can discuss the best option for you.
If we've arranged a telehealth session, here's everything you need to know. It works just like an in-person appointment, just from wherever you're comfortable. Click through the steps below to see exactly what to expect.
Check Your Email
Before your appointment, you'll receive an email with your session details and a link to join the video call.
- Look for an email from Angus Munro Psychology or Microsoft Teams
- It will contain your appointment time and a "Join Meeting" button
- You'll typically receive this when you book, with a reminder before your session
Can't find the email? Check your spam/junk folder. If it's still missing, just reply to any previous email from the practice and we'll resend it.
Click the Join Link
When it's time for your appointment, click the "Join Microsoft Teams Meeting" link in your email.
- Click the link about 2-3 minutes before your scheduled time
- The link will open in your web browser automatically
- You don't need to download anything or create an account
Use Chrome, Edge, or Safari for the best experience. If you have the Teams app installed, that works too - but it's not required.
Choose "Continue on This Browser"
Teams will ask how you'd like to join. Select the option to continue in your browser - no download needed.
- You'll see options like "Download the app" or "Continue on this browser"
- Click "Continue on this browser" (or similar wording)
- If you already have Teams installed, it may open automatically - that's fine too
The browser option is usually the quickest and easiest. You'll be able to see and hear perfectly without installing anything.
Allow Camera & Microphone
Your browser will ask permission to use your camera and microphone. Click "Allow" for both.
- A popup will appear asking for camera access - click "Allow"
- Another popup will ask for microphone access - click "Allow"
- You should then see yourself in a small preview window
If you accidentally click "Block," don't worry. You can click the camera icon in your browser's address bar to change the setting, then refresh the page.
Enter Your Name & Join
Type your name so I know it's you, then click "Join now." You'll wait briefly while I admit you to the session.
- Enter your name in the text field provided
- Make sure your camera and microphone are turned on (icons not crossed out)
- Click "Join now"
- You'll see a message saying you're waiting to be admitted
I'll admit you as soon as I see you in the waiting room. If your previous session ran slightly over, it may take a minute - I appreciate your patience.
You're Connected!
That's it - you're in the session. The call works just like any video chat. Relax and we'll get started.
- You'll see my video feed and hear my voice
- We'll have a normal session, just as if you were in the office
- Use the red "Leave" button when we're done
If you need to mute yourself briefly (doorbell, etc.), click the microphone icon. If your connection drops, just click the link again to rejoin - it happens occasionally and is no problem at all.
Before Your Session
Quick Checklist
Stable Internet
WiFi or mobile data works fine. If your connection is patchy, try moving closer to your router.
Headphones (Optional)
Headphones can help with audio quality and privacy, but your device's built-in speakers work too.
Quiet Space
Find somewhere private where you won't be interrupted. A closed door helps, even if it's a bedroom or car.
Good Lighting
Face a window or light source so I can see you clearly. Avoid sitting with a bright window behind you.
If Something Goes Wrong
Troubleshooting
Check your spam/junk folder first. If it's not there, reply to any previous email from the practice and we'll resend it right away. You can also call the practice number listed in your booking confirmation.
First, check if you accidentally blocked permission - look for a camera icon in your browser's address bar and make sure it's set to "Allow." If that doesn't help, try closing all other apps that might be using your camera (Zoom, Skype, etc.) and refresh the page. Restarting your browser or device usually fixes it.
This is usually an internet connection issue. Try moving closer to your WiFi router, or switch to mobile data if WiFi is unreliable. Closing other browser tabs and apps can also help. If it's still bad, we can turn off video and continue audio-only - the session will still work fine.
Just click the meeting link again to rejoin. I'll still be there. This happens occasionally and is nothing to worry about. If you can't reconnect, call the practice and we'll troubleshoot or reschedule the remainder.
You don't need to. Look for the option that says "Continue on this browser" or "Join on the web instead." The browser version works perfectly well. If you prefer the app, that's fine too - but it's not required.
If it's been more than a few minutes past your appointment time, I may be finishing with a previous client or there may be a technical issue on my end. Wait another minute or two, then try leaving and rejoining. If that doesn't work, call the practice.
